DANNY CHAPMAN: "I never wanted to leave Dover in the first place"

DANNY CHAPMAN says he wants to come back to Dover Athletic and the club are now trying to finance a deal.

The 30-year-old midfielder-cum-defender is without a club after leaving Eastbourne Borough in the summer and has been training with Whites.

Chapman helped Eastbourne to the Conference North/South play-off final but says the two-hour journey from his north Kent home became too much.

He said: "To be honest, I never wanted to leave Dover in the first place but the previous board cancelled my contract when we didn’t make Conference South.

"I think we’d have won the Ryman Premier last season if they’d kept the same side but they wanted to go with the youngsters.

"I want to play for Clive Walker and he likes players he can trust. I like the people at the club and I like Clive.

"I think I can bring a lot of experience to the side and help bring the young players on.

"Some of the Dover fans have criticised me for getting banned too often but as a defender and midfielder I’m going to pick up bookings. I only missed one game for Eastbourne because of being banned.

"I’m starting my own scrap metal business and Margate want to sign me as well as Dover. I don’t know whether I’m coming or going."

Whites chairman Jim Parmenter said Chapman will only be allowed to sign if Walker offloads a player or a sponsor steps in to cover his wages.
