Barry Cogan’s 10th-minute penalty carried Dover a little closer to the Skrill South play-offs with this nervy victory at Crabble on Saturday.

Cogan converted from the spot after Sean Raggett had been fouled in the Staines penalty area and it proved enough to give Chris Kinnear’s side their first home league win in five matches.

Tom Murphy and Nathan Elder both went close for Dover in the first half while at the other end Whites keeper Mitch Walker was only called into action once before the break to deny Ashley Lodge.

The second half saw more of the same with Whites unable to convert their superiority into further goals and they almost paid the price when Callum Willock, playing against one of his former clubs, saw a late chance snuffed out by Walker.

The win moved Whites up to fifth, two points clear of Havant and Waterlooville and Bath City. On Tuesday Dover travel to take on league leaders Eastleigh.
