Dover’s 2-1 Vanarama Conference win over Altrincham at Crabble on Tuesday didn’t make for the best of viewing and two-goal star Nicky Deverdics agrees.

The former Newcastle United trainee said: “The game wasn’t great. The ball was up in the air a lot due to a bobbly and bouncy pitch but the main thing is we’ve won without playing great.

“Maybe we needed to win a couple of games ugly though, just to get the confidence and winning feeling back again.

“Saying that, two wins in four days in games that haven’t been the best of spectacles shows we’ve got character.”

And the midfielder said there was room for improvement.

He said: “We looked resilient defensively again after a solid performance in the 2-0 win at Kidderminster on Saturday and we’ve cut out the errors that have led to silly goals.

“While that is all good, we know the service to the front lads wasn’t great against Altrincham.

“Hopefully with the confidence of these two wins behind us now, we can loosen up, get the ball down and play a bit more football.”
