Defenders Tryone Sterling and Tom Wynter are facing a race to get fit for Dover’s Vanarama Conference showdown against Eastleigh at Crabble on Saturday.

Boss Chris Kinnear said on Wednesday that Sterling (ankle) and Wynter (calf) had not trained so far this week.

He said: “They are more niggles than anything but you just don’t know and you have to take precautions.

“Hopefully, they will be fine but as I said before, you just don’t know.”

If Sterling, who signed from Dartford in pre-season, doesn’t make it, Kinnear said that would be a blow given the way the player performed in the 1-1 draw at Grimsby last Saturday.

He said: “Tyrone was outstanding in that game. We knew how good he was when he had a spell with us last season and he just showed his class again.”

But it’s not only Sterling’s impressive performance that Kinnear hopes his side can build on against Eastleigh.

He said: “I thought there were so many positives to come out of the game and we can take into the Eastleigh match.

“We defended well all the way through the game, the midfielders worked hard, as did lads at the front.

“What pleased me as well was that we didn’t lie down either after we went behind and we continued to take it to them.”

Kinnear’s side travel to Woking on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).
