DOVER Athletic’s depleted squad came home from the Welsh valleys with a deserved point from this goalless draw on Saturday.

Merthyr needed a win to clinch Conference (South) football next season, and Whites required a victory to keep alive their hopes of an automatic place.

Dover now need a win against Stafford to ensure a place in the play-offs. On the evidence of this match the defence looks fine but the weakness in midfield and attack must cause Whites manager Richard Langley some concern.

After the match Langley said: “It was a typical end of season game with a lot at stake. Merthyr created a lot of chances and hit the post a couple of times, but I thought we did OK.”

Dover Athletic: Hyde, Browne, J Rogers, Hickman, Arnott, Cloke, Day, Skelton (Millar 60 mins), Wilkins, Glover (Wright 80), Welch.
