Dover boss Chris Kinnear admits his side must not get carried away as they bid for promotion

Boss Chris Kinnear has admitted for the first time that he would be disappointed if Dover fell short of the Vanarama National League play-offs.

Kinnear maintained his season-long mantra that Whites ‘must not get carried away’ despite bossing potential semi-final opponents Grimsby in a 1-1 draw at Crabble on Saturday.

A win at already-relegated Kidderminster on Saturday would ensure a club record top-four finish and all but secure a two-legged semi-final against the Mariners.

Kinnear said: “I would be disappointed (not to make it) but I can’t even think about that, I can only think about getting points at Kidderminster.

“Kidderminster have gone down so they’re going to play without any pressure and that’s quite dangerous at times.

“Once we’re there, then you can worry about it. You never know what’s going to happen. We got into the play-offs in the final two or three minutes of the last game last time. Who knows? You have to make the most of it, keep yourself focused and try and get a result.”

He added: “Hopefully, it will work out for us, if not we have given this season a good crack, haven’t we?

“In the summer, if you’d even given us the faintest hope of getting into the
play-offs on the last game what an amazing achievement the players and the club have made.

“We mustn’t get too carried away with ourselves, I know everyone is willing it and wants it to happen but it’s only our second year at this level.”

Ricky Modeste suffered a cut mouth against Grimsby but should be fit, while Sean Raggett (hamstring) will be assessed. Richard Orlu remains suspended but this week did sign a contract to keep him at Crabble until the end of next season.
