Dover boss Chris Kinnear lauded his players after the 1-0 Vanarama Conference win against Gateshead at Crabble on Saturday.

But he admits the win, Dover's third consecutive league triumph in a week, wasn't the greatest spectacle.

Kinnear said: "We'd love to play like Barcelona each week but only Barcelona play like Barcelona.

"You've got to be realistic. You are not going to be brilliant in every game.

"The important thing is that you get the job done and we did that against another big, former Football League team and that's outstanding.

"And I think they (Gateshead) would probably admit that we were the better side on the day.

"We kept the ball for long periods of the game and they couldn't get it off us. We were strong at the back and Mitch (goalkeeper Mitch Walker) didn't really have a save to make.

"They (Gateshead) may have better individual players than us but it's not about that. It's about working as a team and my lads do that so well.

"We've gone through a bit of an iffy run and we've copped a bit of stick as a result of it but they've responded by winning three on the bounce.

"There is no lack of character or determination in this group and they've proved that this season."

The win sees Dover remain 10th ahead of Tuesday's clash with third-placed Grimsby Town at Crabble (7.45pm).
