A reaction will be needed tonight by Dover as they host Taunton in National League South.

Whites began life without Andy Hessenthaler as their boss on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat at bottom side Hungerford, with Hessenthaler having left on Thursday to rejoin Gillingham in a head of recruitment role.

But coach Mike Sandmann, in temporary charge alongside player-assistant Mitch Brundle, expects the 15th-placed outfit to bounce back.

He said: “We are looking to create chances, like we did on Saturday. But obviously, we want to be more clinical and we want to take them.

“We went 3-5-2, and myself and Brunds felt it’s a shape that worked for us. I would be concerned if we aren’t creating chances.

“We could have defended the goal better on Saturday but it was in horrible conditions. We could have defended better, the boys know that.

“But there’s a good group of players, a mixture of experienced and young ones, and I’m sure there will be a reaction from Saturday’s disappointment.”

Taunton head to Dover in 17th spot in the league, three points behind Whites but with some six games in hand.

It will be the first of two home games in quick succession for Dover who host promotion-chasing rivals Ebbsfleet this Saturday.
