Dover missed a late penalty as they picked up their first Vanarama Conference point at Grimsby on Saturday.

It could have easily been all three points for Dover had substitute Christian Nanetti not seen his spot-kick kept out by Grimsby keeper James McKeown after Nathan Elder was fouled in the second minute of stoppage time.

It was the second pivotal moment of the game for Nanetti, who joined Dover from Havant at the start of pre-season.

The quick-footed Nanetti was involved in Dover's equalising goal with five minutes left when he ran the length of the pitch before setting up Matt Locke to score his first Whites goal beyond McKeown.

Grimsby, who also hit the woodwork through Lenell John-Lewis, had taken the lead 15 minutes from the end when Paddy McLaughlin's volley took a deflection off substitute Jon-Paul PIttman to beat keeper Mitchell Walker.

Dover's best chance of the first half had fallen to Steffan Payne but boss Chris Kinnear will take great encouragement from the way his team finished the contest, despite the penalty miss, as Whites completed a tough first week in non-league's top flight with a point on the board.
