Bristol Rovers 1 Dover Athletic 1 - Vanarama Conference Premier match report

By: Alex Hoad

Published: 17:00, 04 October 2014

Substitute Tom Murphy snatched a deserved point for Dover Athletic in the final minute at Bristol Rovers in Vanarama Conference Premier on Saturday afternoon.

Just six minutes after coming off the bench, Murphy smashed high into the net in the 90th minute after pinball in the Pirates box following Jake Reid’s run to the byline and cut-back to send the 200-strong Dover contingent in a crowd of more than 6,000 at the Memorial Stadium wild.

Nick Deverdics had seen a shot deflected narrowly over moments earlier in a grandstand finish, as Chris Kinnear’s side battled to come back from a half-time deficit.

The opening goal came courtesy of Adam Cunnington 10 minutes before the break after the Athletic defence failed to track the runner from a long throw forward.

Cunnington and Dover’s Stefan Payne also struck the woodwork in the first-half in a game which brought Rovers’ five match home winning run to an end.

Whites sit 19th and are back in action with a trip to 22nd-placed Nuneaton – now managed by Liam Daish - on Tuesday, with just three points separating the sides.
