Whites finish sad season on low note

DOVER Athletic's miserable Conference season ended on an appropriate note as they went down to defeat in their last match at Yeovil on Saturday.

And salt was rubbed into Whites' wounds with the dismissal of centre half Lee Shearer just before half-time for protesting about Yeovil's second goal. Adam Stansfield looked to be offside as he burst through but the linesman's flag stayed down and Stansfield scored to provoke Shearer's anger, and referee Andre Marriner said afterwards that he had dismissed the defender for "foul and abusive language and a gesture".

Yeovil had taken the lead through Carl Alford's 19th-minute header from a cross by Michael McIndoe after Phil Smith had been caught out of position.

Dover were never really at the races and their only shot of the game after 82 minutes when Neil Le Bihan saw his effort expertly tipped over by Chris Weale.
