DOVER ATHLETIC manager Clive Walker has made his first new signing for next season. Walker has secured the signature of central midfielder Lee Spiller from Ryman League club Chesham United.

The 24-year-old former Gillingham, Gravesend and Margate player has signed a one-year contract and Walker is clearly delighted with his acquisition.

He told the club’s official website: “This is a major signing for us and I believe we've got a player of a similar calibre to Simon Wormull.

“I have known Lee for some years and keenly watched his career develop. He played a couple of first team games for Gillingham as a youngster and then went on to play for Gravesend and Margate. He's a great player and I'm delighted he has chosen to sign for Dover.”

Walker will also have Paul Hyde’s vast experience at his disposal next season after the goalkeeper, who has played more than 1,000 games during his professional career, signed a new two-year contract as player-assistant manager.

The Whites manager said: “Paul has been a great pro for this club. He has shown tremendous commitment. He has the experience I am looking for and I know he is the right man.”

Hyde reclaimed the No 1 jersey from Phil Smith last season after being sidelined early in the campaign by Gary Bellamy, and says he is relishing his new managerial role at Crabble.

Walker, however, has lost striker Scott Ramsay who has signed for Dr Martens Eastern Division side Eastbourne Borough.

Walker said: “I wanted him to stay here because he has potential, but he lives in Eastbourne and has a new job there, too."

“The other lads out of contract are still deciding what to do. Lee Shearer, Jake Leberl, Kristian James and Neil Le Bihan have been offered deals and I really hope they all sign."
