A teenage cyclist has been airlifted to hospital in London after a traffic accident involving a silver Mercedes in Athelstan Road.

Kent Police was called at 2.15pm and the road remains closed.

A spokesman said: "The road has been closed to allow South East Coast Ambulance Service and the air ambulance to attend the scene."

An ambulance spokesman confirmed the teenager suffered a serious ankle injury and a minor head wound.

He was initially treated at the scene before being lifted to King's College Hospital in London.
