Armed police called in to join hunt for man with "bladed weapon"

Armed officers were deployed after reports of a robbery by a man believed to have a blade on him.

Police were called to Barnes Close, Faversham, this afternoon after allegations a mobile phone had been stolen.

They were also told the suspect may be armed, so firearms officers were called in.

Police spokesman Martin Very said: "Kent Police was called at around 1.44pm today to a reported robbery in Barnes Close, Faversham.

"It was alleged a mobile phone was stolen and the suspect may have been in possession of a bladed weapon.

"Officers, including firearms officers, conducted inquiries in the Faversham area to locate the suspect and later arrested a local man on suspicion of robbery.

"He remains in police custody while the investigation continues."
