Friends of a respected firefighter who died suddenly at work have launched a fundraising page to help set-up a trust fund for his two children.

Popular Danny Haxton, 37, collapsed just minutes into his shift on Sunday night, leaving his young family and loved ones devastated.

His wife Nikki told how news of her husband's death has still not sunk in for her or their two children, Olivia, 10, and Harry, eight.

But the family has received an outpouring of support from friends and Mr Haxton's colleagues, who have now set-up the fundraising site.

Its aim is to raise £5,000 to put into a trust fund for Olivia and Harry, with close to £2,000 donated in less than a day.

Friend and London Fire Brigade colleague Stephen Irvine said: "The memory of Danny will live on through his two children, Olivia and Harry, so please donate to this fund, which will go directly to helping and supporting them."

Mr Haxton had been with the brigade for 12 years, rising to the rank of watch manager.

He was working at Beckenham fire station when he collapsed, just a day after captaining Faversham cricket club to an impressive win.

His wife, who turned 37 on the day of her husband's death, said: "It still hasn’t sunk in for me, it’s like I’m living a bizarre dream.

“He was really healthy, he didn’t smoke or drink, he used the gym before he started his shifts. He was as strong as an ox.”
