Man in dock on double murder charge

KILLED: Vera and Terry Martin

A 21-year-old man accused of killing an elderly couple in Faversham has appeared at Maidstone Crown Court.

Brett Clifton, of Becket Street, Faversham, is charged with murdering Vera Martin, 78, and her 72-year-old husband Terry at their home in Abbey Street on January 25.

Clifton spoke only to be identified as he appeared via a TV Link with London's Belmarsh Prison.

Judge Warwick McKinnon remanded Clifton in custody and ordered his return to court on April 21 to enter pleas to the charges.

The bodies of Mr and Mrs Martin were discovered by a member of their family. They died from multiple injuries after a violent struggle. Their burnt out car was found a short distance away.
