A mother will reach her peak when she climbs one of the world’s tallest mountains for charity.

Lisa Blythin, 49, will join her stepdaughter Caity, 21, and Caity’s boyfriend Brad, 22, for the epic trek to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in August.

The family, of Nursery Lane in Sheldwich, need to raise at least £9,000 for Childreach International before the monumental challenge to the top of the mountain, towering over Africa at 5,895m.

Lisa Blythin with stepdaughter Caity and Caity's boyfriend Brad, who are all climbing Kilimanjaro for charity.

They have arranged a number of fundraising activities in the last few months and will be hosting many more before the big day.

Lisa said: “Our trip to Kilimanjaro will include a visit to see one of the local schools projects that we will be supporting.

“The trek itself will take six days, assuming that we’ve acclimatised to the altitude, as apparently the incidence of altitude sickness is quite high and up to 75% of trekkers on summit night will suffer with some form or sickness.

“Childreach are a global child rights movement that believe all children should be free to fulfill their potential.

“Their mission is to make sure nothing stands in their way.”

So far, the trio have held a charity breakfast, a raffle and cake sale, but still need about two thirds of the cash.

Sheldwich Cricket Club have agreed to support them by holding a boot fair this Sunday with all proceeds going toward the charity.

Lisa added: “With such a whopping target and a very short timescale, we have got quite a challenge on our hands.

“If anyone is interested in supporting us, that would be fantastic.”
