It then hit a stationary vehicle in The Mall at about 10.20pm.

A pursuit to track the suspect down was authorised and a helicopter was deployed.

Following the night-time search, a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when directed and dangerous driving.

He remains in custody while inquiries into the incident continue.
