A thug sent threatening texts and alarming voice messages to a woman's mobile phone before slashing the tyres of her car.

Levy Smith, from Faversham, breached a two-year restraining order by contacting his victim in the summer.

The 31-year-old, of Newnham Lane in Eastling, also inflicted facial injuries on another woman, whom he knew, after punching her on August 15.

He was arrested 16 days later when he was spotted by police driving through The Meads Avenue in Sittingbourne.

The officers asked him to pull over after seeing his car had steering defects - but he continued travelling through Knightsfield Road and Vicarage Road, before stopping the vehicle and attempting to run away.

And at Maidstone Crown Court last Thursday, he was jailed for 18 months, after admitting charges of criminal damage, common assault, dangerous driving and breaching a restraining order.

Investigating officer PC Zoe Hallam said: "Smith completely ignored the restraining order and behaved in a manner to intentionally cause fear to his victim as well as assaulting another woman.

"His behaviour is not acceptable, and I hope this outcome acts as a deterrent to others."
