Town's final farewell to couple

THE funeral of a couple found dead in their own home will take place on Monday.

Residents of Faversham will get a chance to pay their respects to Terry and Vera Martin when their funeral procession travels through the streets of the town.

The funeral service will take place at St Mary of Charity parish church at 10.45am and the procession is due in town at around 11.15am.

A spokesman at Co-op Funeral Directors said the family wanted to give the people of Faversham the chance to pay their last respects.

The Reverend Tony Oehring, who is due take the service, said: "People want to pay their respects. This is a chance to pray for the family, and for the town to acknowledge that the couple had a horrible end."

The route will travel through the Market Place and up Preston Street.

Mr and Mrs Martin were found dead at their home in Abbey Street on Wednesday, January 25, and their burned out car was discovered in Bysingwood.

* Brett Clifton, 21, of Beckett Street, Faversham, was charged with the Martins' murder on Monday, January 30. He is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, April 21 to enter pleas.
