People are warned to beware of a bizarre new scam in which a hoax caller tries to convince residents they need a "compulsory bird bath" installed in their garden.

The conman has been ringing residents in the Swale area claiming to be from Kent County Council.

He tries to make an appointment to fit the bird table, and then asks for a cheque for £50.

Hoaxers demanding cash for "compulsory bird bath".

KCC's Trading Standards department believes it could be a tactic to commit a distraction burglary, and has issued a warning.

To report any issues to Trading Standards, call 03454 04 05 06 from Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm or click here.
