Faversham Town boss Ray Turner admits his team need to go on a run to get back into play-off contention

Ray Turner says things are finally looking up at Faversham and the Town boss has plotted their course back to the play-offs – a road which begins in Tooting on Saturday.

Saturday’s 2-0 win over fourth-placed Carshalton sparked hopes of a Town revival in the second half of the season and the whittling away of the 11-point gap which separates them from the top-five, in which they have appeared in three of the past four Ryman League, Division 1 South seasons.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to second-placed Tooting & Mitcham, Turner said: “We are not getting carried away. One result doesn’t make everything all right again.

“There wasn’t much between us in the game we lost against Tooting (3-0 in September) but they have been flying ever since and we have not.

“It would be fantastic if we could make it back-to-back wins. We need to get on a run. We are not that far away (from the play-off places) if we were to win our games in hand but we need to be able to do that.”

Turner claimed the league was getting ever stronger, adding: “The quality has definitely risen this year. I’ve been impressed.

“In previous years you maybe had one or two outstanding teams, this season there are eight or nine.”

Turner endured a hectic few days at Town which saw defender Ryan Mahal sign for Premier Division Grays Athletic after becoming aware of their interest only after agreeing a move to Faversham from Leatherhead which lasted just one game.

Keeper Will Godmon also returned to Salters Lane on Friday after heading to Leatherhead in October, with Ben Bridle-Card returning to parent club Maidstone.

Turner said: “Will hadn’t settled as well as he’d have liked and it suited both parties for him to come back. He signed the night before the game and it gave us a big boost.”
