The Lilywhites host Egham Town of the Evo-Stik Southern League, Division 1 Central in a third qualifying round tie – the furthest Town have progressed in their history and just two wins from a potential Football League tie in the first round.

Turner said: “I’d like the town to come out and support us, pack the ground, get behind the boys and make it an incredible day.

“It is not enough to just be at this stage, we have got this far after all those years of trying, let’s go out to enjoy it, play with freedom and try to progress. We don’t want all that hard work at Hitchin in the last round to go to waste.”

Town warmed up for the game with a 7-1 win against Chatham in Ryman League, Division 1 South on Tuesday night.

They had, however, gone down 3-0 to unbeaten Tooting & Mitcham at the Shepherd Neame Stadium on Saturday, a game they bossed until Dean Grant saw a second-half penalty saved.

Turner admitted ‘it was a bit of a blow’ and said: “We were in control of the game and then got a penalty. Typical football, we miss it and they go down the other end and put a free-kick in the top corner.

“It was a difficult day but we bounced back in style with an unbelievable night of goals on Tuesday.

“We can take confidence from that into Saturday, although Egham won 3-0 and we can’t take them lightly – they’ll be thinking the same as us, it’s a great opportunity to progress.”

Should a replay be avoided, Town will visit East Grinstead on Tuesday night (7.45pm) and Turner added: “It was important to stay in touch as a lot of strong teams have got off to a flier and don’t look like dropping many points.”
