FIREFIGHTERS in Folkestone have been called to a fire at the same derelict building in the town twice in less than 24 hours.

Arsonists struck at the former Cannon House in Park Farm Road at 9.30pm on Wednesday and again at 6.20pm on Thursday night.

Rubbish and wood was set alight and in total, seven engines were sent to the two fires with firefighters needing breathing apparatus on both occasions to fight the flames.

On Wednesday, a 30-year-old man needed treatment for smoke inhalation at the site.

Crews have tackled at least eight deliberate fires at the same property since August and appealed in September for action to be taken by the owners before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Shepway District Council is in contact with them and have asked for it to either be securely boarded or demolished.

The site is earmarked for development as a B&Q store, proposals for which will be considered by a planning inquiry in November.
