A celebrity chef has announced plans to reopen a restaurant in a coastal town after he was forced to close it down earlier this year.

Mark Sargeant shuttered the Brasserie MS in Clifton Gardens, Folkestone, in February citing “tough trading conditions”.

But with a post on Instagram today, the restaurateur has said the eatery will return to serving up delicacies in September, under the new name Restaurant MS.

“After five months of back and forth, I am ecstatic to say that I have finally got the keys back to my restaurant in Folkestone,” wrote Mr Sargeant.

“I just can’t wait to get open again and welcome back past guests and new ones.”

Opening to rave reviews last August, Brasserie MS featured a menu including seafood lasagne, pigs trotter ‘Pierre Koffmann’ and various catch-of-the-day dishes.

The award-winning chef, who spent 13 years working alongside Gordon Ramsay, told The Caterer that he aims to make the Leaside Court site a destination restaurant.

“I'm keen to make this a stand-out dining spot in the South East,” he said.

“When I sat down to think about the reopening it became clear that I was going a little more high-end than brasserie style, so the Restaurant MS name is a little more in keeping with the style of food."

He also explained that the reopening will be done with the help of a new business partner, Kanagaratnam Rajamenon, managing director of Leaf Hotels.

“I have a brilliant new backer who came on board immediately as he understands the area and knows the potential of the town,” added Mr Sargeant.

The closure of Brasserie MS in February, came just weeks after news that the restaurant had been included in the Michelin 2023 Great Britain and Ireland Guide.

Responding to the chef’s social-media announcement of Restaurant MS’ upcoming unveiling, fans celebrated in the comments section.

“Amazing news - I’ll definitely be booking it up,” wrote one user.

“Will the trotters PK still make an appearance?” asked another, to which Mr Sargeant responded: “100%”
