Expelled Ukip general election candidate Janice Atkinson has teamed up with far-right leader Marine Le Pen in a new alliance.

Ms Atkinson, who had been the Folkestone and Hythe candidate until she was expelled from the party over expenses allegations, has joined the President of the French National Front to set up an anti-EU group called the Europe of Nations of Freedom.

Both are MEPs and the launch took place at the European Parliament today.

“Choices over our own laws and decisions are taken out of the hands of voters, leaving national parliaments powerless to resist the decrees of the unelected European Commission.’’

Ms Atkinson had been selected last November to be Ukip’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Folkestone and Hythe constituency.

This was despite the row over her calling a Thai woman in Ramsgate a “ting tong’’ three months before.

Matters further boiled over in Shepway when Ukip Romney Marsh county councillor David Baker resigned in March over her selection and retention despite those remarks.

She was finally expelled from the party that month after a separate controversy over an expenses claim.

Harriet Yeo took over as Ukip candidate and came second in the May 7 poll.

France’s Front National is a controversial anti-immigration party, which is growing in popularity in that country.

it became the first French party of the 2014 European Elections to get 25% of the votes.

Le Pen has been leader for four years and is working to move the party from its more traditional hard line right-wing stance.

The Europe of Nations and Freedom’s other co-president is Marcel de Graaf , a member of the Dutch right wing party PVV led by the controversial Geert Wilders.
