An historic church in Folkestone is at considerable risk according to English Heritage.

St Peter's Church in North Road overlooks the harbour and is known commonly as the Fisherman's Church and was today included on the group's Heritage at Risk register.

An extensive restoration project is currently being carried out by the church but decades of wind erosion and battering rain perched above the harbour is taking its toll.

English Heritage today published the list which features buildings across Kent and the south east.

The building as a whole is deteriorating with the stonework in poor condition and the roof is also suffering badly.

The Grade II listed church is among 19 other places of worship in the county to be added to the list.

They include the Church of St Dunstan in Cranbrook and the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Ospringe.

But it's not all bad news for Folkestone.

The iconic town centre's Church of St Mary and St Eanswythe has been removed from the register after an extensive programme of repairs and renovations.
