Lego is one of Britain’s most popular toys, and what better use of it than building local landmarks?

That’s what one man from Folkestone is asking people to do.

The Folkestonian is a group set up by resident Tom Langlands to put on quirky projects.

For the past couple of weeks entries people have been building their favourite sites in the town.

From the Grand Hotel or the Harbour to the Leas Cliff Hall or a Martello Tower, whatever takes your fancy you can probably build it out of Lego.

Tom said: “I thought I’d kick off the new year with a bit of Folkestone-based fun that would cost nothing to set up or participate in but hopefully tap into the imaginations of my fellow Folkestonians, young and old, whether they are creating the landmarks or just enjoying the pictures.”

Designs don’t have to be present landmarks. What about landmarks of the past such as the Rotunda?

The Perry family also built Martello Tower 3 near Wear Bay Road

Tom hopes to set up a charity Lego swap shop where people can trade and buy new bricks for a minimal amount per gram which will help raise money for children’s hospice charity Demelza.
