A nine-hour stand-off between police and a man on a roof has ended with guilty pleas in court.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance in Dover Road, Folkestone, at around 12.30am on Saturday and suspect Patrick Follen was seen on the roof of a nearby property a short while later at around 2am.

The road was closed off "to ensure public safety" while officers attempted to talk him down.

Once the 30-year-old was finally brought down from the roof, with the help of Kent Fire and Rescue Service, he was charged with criminal damage, using threatening or abusive words or behaviour and obstructing a police officer.

Appearing at Folkestone Magistrates' Court yesterday, Follen, of Dover Road, pleaded guilty to all three charges.

He was given a 12-month community order of 150 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay compensation of £500 for the criminal damage.

Follen was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95.
