Eurotunnel shuttle services will be suspended between 10.39pm Saturday and 6.14am Sunday

Eurotunnel is running a massive safety exercise on Saturday night and Sunday morning, meaning all services will be suspended.

The 19th bi-national exercise, known as BINAT 19 will involve the fire, ambulance and police services from the UK and France.

Shuttle services from Folkestone to Calais will be suspended between 10.39pm on Saturday and 6.14am on Sunday.

Eurotunnel customers have already been informed. At the same time, the work on the damaged end of the Tunnel will continue.

BINAT 19, the thirteenth on such a scale since 1994, is designed to test the coordinated response of the emergency services if an incident were to occur in the Channel Tunnel.

The scenario of the exercise cannot be disclosed in advance. This year, the exercise will be led by the UK authorities.

Organising regular safety exercises of this kind is an important part of Eurotunnel’s safety and security policy.
