A paraglider has survived after plunging 300ft into the sea.

The man had taken off from the clifftop at Capel-le-Ferne, lost height and ended up at the water.

But the gradual descent and soft landing close to the shore meant he was unharmed.
A Dover Coastguard spokesman said: "Nothing was hurt except his ego."

The drama happened at about 2.30pm yesterday (Saturday).

The man landed about 40ft from the short at The Warren and was spotted by two people on the beach who waded in and hauled him out.

Coastguards attended the drama and called out the Dover and Littlestone RNLI lifeboats but they were stood down when it was found the man had been successfully rescued.

The Coastguard spokesman said: "He didn't need a great deal of help and was well enough to walk away and leave in his car."
