A town centre pub is closing its doors temporarily after a member of staff tested positive for Covid.

The East Kent Arms in Folkestone says the decision is just a 'precaution', as the pub is already thoroughly cleaned everyday.

But following the test result, it will now carry out a deep clean.

A post from the pub on Facebook reads: "Just to let all our customers know that we have had a part time member of staff test positive.

"Three have had negative so far awaiting others results.

"As a precaution even though the pub is sanitised and thoroughly clean everyday we are going to shut for a deep clean.

"We value all our customers and staff and want everybody to be safe.

"Will we re-open as soon as we are sure of this. Thank you to all. Any concerns please give us a call."

Earlier this year, landlady Fiona Neaves made the decision to ban under 21s from the pub for not following Covid rules.

Speaking at the time, Ms Neaves said: "As of Friday, May 21 we will only be allowing 21s and over. Passports or photo ID will need to be shown.

“It is because it tends to be the youngsters who are not behaving.

"You have to constantly remind them to wear their masks, and then they get mouthy. It can be quite scary."
