Second arrest in alleged murder case of Joe Daniels, former Red Cow landlord, in Foord Road, Folkestone

A second arrest has been made following the death of a pub landlord who was shot.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate launched an investigation after Joe Daniels was found unresponsive inside the Red Cow pub in Foord Road in Folkestone.

The incident happened more than 14 months ago on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, shortly before 11.30am.

Mr Daniels, 58, suffered an injury consistent with a gunshot and was pronounced dead at the scene, where a firearm was also recovered.

Kent Police officers, including firearms officers, carried out a pre-planned warrant at an address in Beach Road, Westgate on Monday, February 25.

As part of the early-morning operation, one man aged in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to supply firearms.

He has been released on bail until Friday, March 15 pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Vickery said: "A 24-year-old man from Canterbury arrested in connection with this incident on Wednesday, January 31 2018 remains under investigation.

"Over the past year we’ve reviewed more than one thousand hours of CCTV and dashcam footage.

"We have also taken more than 350 statements, searched houses and seized more than 1,200 items, many of which have been forensically examined.

"We thank those people who have come forward with information and continue to urge anyone with new information to come forward, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant."

Police were also seen at Ling Metals in Hersden today as part of the investigation. Police have been contacted for further comment.
