A 4x4 stuck in the mud at Folkestone harbour has been completely submerged by water.

Coastguard crews desperately attempted to free the vehicle but were unable to prevent the incoming tide from swallowing the Nissan Pathfinder.

The vehicle is under there somewhere!

Onlookers have been watching the drama unfold this morning, near to the fish market and Rocksalt restaurant.

The grey vehicle is currently beneath the water after becoming submerged at about 10.30am - two hours before high tide.

Attempted rescuers waded through the mud as they tried to save the 4x4, but have had to helplessly watch on as it disappears beneath the surface.

Now, they are out in an inflatable and two vans are attempting to pull it free from the water.

There are no reports of any injuries, and neither police or ambulance crews have been called to the scene.
