Landmarks from across Kent - including a war cemetery - are cropping up in the latest series of hit Netflix comedy Sex Education.

The third season of the award-winning drama was released on the online streaming service this Friday.

It follows teenager Otis Milburn who, along with best friend Eric Effiong, teams up with classmate Maeve Wiley to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school.

It stars Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, Jemima Kirke and Emma Mackey.

Filming primarily takes place in Wales, but production made its way to the county for the third series, with scenes being shot in Folkestone and surrounding areas earlier this year.

The cast and crew visited Shorncliffe Military Cemetery in Sandgate, Hawthorne Trenches in Elham and the Harbour Arm.

Shorncliffe Military Cemetery belongs to the Ministry of Defence and contains war graves of both World Wars.

It is an open cemetery - the pedestrian gate remains unlocked at all times and visitors are welcome all year round - and has over 500 graves.

It is thought to have been established in the early 1850s, with the first recorded burial taking place in August 1856.

Hawthorne Trench, in Elham between Folkestone and Canterbury, is an area of recreated First World War trench systems which totals over 250 metres.

Currently the Trench consists of an Officers’ dugout, regimental aid posts, cookhouses, railway systems, latrines as well as front and second line which is connected by communication trenches.

The trench is located on a 25-acre field with nearby woodland.

Folkestone Harbour Arm was used as a filming location

Folkestone Harbour Arm is a popular tourist spot, and was also recently used as the backdrop for series two of Back to Life.

People on social media spotted the production filming in Kent in February this year.

One user said: "Not Sex Education getting filmed down Folkestone Harbour Arm."

The first series of Sex Education had over 40 million viewers within its first month of release. It also received a 91% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
