A 95-YEAR-OLD woman was rescued from Folkestone harbour on Sunday after falling into the water in her wheelchair.

Ivy Forte, from Bethnal Green in London, was visiting the seaside with her daughters, who left her for a moment on the sea wall.

But the brakes were not secure and she toppled the 25ft into the water.

An off duty firefighter from Herne Bay jumped into the sea and with the help of another man from Wye, near Ashford, dragged her onto the beach where she was treated for hypothermia.

She is now recovering at the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford. Doctors later discovered she had fractured ribs and a broken knee.

Coastguards and Littlestone lifeboats were also scrambled.
