FOLKESTONE Invicta threatened to cause a cup shock when they took an early lead at League 2 side Chester City on Saturday.

The travelling supporters went wild as Chester goalkeeper Chris MacKenzie made a hash of catching Paul Lamb's 10th-minute free-kick and the ball bounced into the net off Adam Flanaghan.

Neil Cugley's side held onto their lead until the 54th-minute when their stubborn resistance was finally broken.

Stuart Myall brought down Ben Davies in the penalty area and home skipper Michael Branch made no mistake as he thumped the spot-kick past Tony Kessell.

Folkestone were under pressure for most of the second half and it was no real surprise when Ryan Lowe's superb strike in the 70th-minute put them ahead, but the Ryman League Premier Division side can be proud of their efforts.

Ramsgate's interest in this season's competition was ended by a 2-0 defeat at Nuneaton Borough.

The home side took the lead after 16 minutes when Steffan Ball lost his man and Rob Oddy kept his cool to beat Danny Twyman.

It was 2-0 before half-time as Nuneaton took advantage of gaps down the right. Oddy broke away and found David Staff, who was left unmarked to head in a second.

Ramsgate improved after the break but they had given themselves too much to do.

The visitors had the ball in the Nuneaton net twice but both times there celebrations were cut short by a linesman's flag.
