TWO goals from Ryman Premier Division top scorer Carl Griffiths helped condemn Folkestone to defeat on an emotional day at Cheriton Road on Saturday.

There was an impeccably observed minute’s silence before the match in honour of Paul Sykes, who died tragically after collapsing during Tuesday’s match against Margate.

The visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute when Griffiths was left unmarked to force the ball home from barely two yards out after a cross from the right.

Adam Gillespie doubled Heybridge’s lead before the break after Simon Glover and Mark Munday had both missed chances for Invicta.

The game was put beyond any doubt 10 minutes into the second half when Griffiths smashed home an unstoppable volley.

Folkestone began to assert themselves on the game more after they were three goals behind and they were rewarded for their persistence when Glover scored a consolation goal 15 minutes from time.
