Jerson dos Santos has been given the chance to earn himself a deal at Folkestone.

The striker, who spent last season at Hythe Town, set up Invicta's goal in a 1-1 draw with Gillingham on Saturday.

He also played against Maidstone on Monday and has given boss Neil Cugley a decision to make.

Cugley said: "He's looking at us and we're looking at him. He did all right.

"They're hard games for a forward because you don't get a lot of the ball. I'm hoping to see a bit more of him on Saturday.

"The chairman's back this week and if we can bring one more in, be it Santos or somebody else, we'll have a look but it won't be any more than that because the budget's gone."

Folkestone face more National League opposition on Saturday when Dover Athletic visit the Fullicks Stadium.

"I think that will be a really good game," said Cugley.

"It's always a good test against Dover, they're big and strong and very direct and that will be a real good test for everybody.

"You know they'll be a strong outfit so it's another difficult game - but enjoyable.

"We've got two games after that, Cray Valley away (Tuesday) and Ramsgate away (next Saturday), when hopefully we can have more possession."

Sam Hasler will see his first action of the summer on Saturday while Jack Evans and Matt Newman are now back with the squad.

There will also be more minutes for free agent Phil Starkey as he works his way back to fitness after a long injury lay-off.

Cugley said: "It's good to see him back. I think, by September, he'll be fit and raring to go.

"It's going to take a bit of time because he's been out for a long time but he's quite a fit lad anyway and with these games and a bit of training, I'm sure he'll be knocking on the door to try to get in the team.

"He might be a good asset to have by then but he hasn't signed anything yet.

"We're raring to go and the players have been great. I'm quite happy with what we've got, maybe one more and that'll have to do.

"With the World Cup and England doing well in that, everybody's buzzed up and it's nice."
