Motorists faced heavy disruption on their way to work after an accident closed a key route.

The A227 Wrotham Road was shut in both directions after a crash between Steele's Lane at Meopham Green and Chapmans Hill for South Street.

The accident was close to the Kings Arms.

The road was reopened after 9am.

Police have been contacted for more information but tweeted shortly before 8am the closure is expected to remain in place "for the foreseeable future".

Five patients were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
