A cafe set up especially for people living with dementia has celebrated its third anniversary.

Hartley Memory Cafe is one of a number of similar projects set up across north Kent by Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Services (ADSS), the Messenger’s Charity of the Year.

Volunteers Pauline Granger, Julie West, Veronica McGannon, Jackie West, Carole Farlow, Penny Spules and Sue Scott at the 3rd anniversary celebration of the Hartley Memory Cafe

Once a month, people with dementia or memory worries and their families and carers gather in Wellfield Community Hall for tea, coffee, cake and a chat.

Special guests are invited to each meeting and for the anniversary the visitors were chairman of Sevenoaks council, Cllr Larry Abraham, and vice chairman Cllr Pat Bosley.

The chairman helped staff and volunteers cut a cake with pictures of tea cups on it and everyone sang happy birthday, accompanied by entertainer Laurie Blake on keyboard.

Nicola Lambert, service development coordinator at ADSS, said: “Everyone had a lovely time.”
