Armed police called to New Road, Gravesend town centre

Armed police descended on a town centre this afternoon as a man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

A huge emergency response was reported in New Road, Gravesend, with multiple police cars spotted.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing a number of armed officers patrolling the town centre.

Police vehicles were pictured on the one-way system at the junction with Darnley Road, New Road and Bath Street, near The Wheatsheaf pub at around 3pm (September 22)

Speaking after the police presence died down, a spokesman said: “Police were called at around 2.15pm to a premises following a report of a man causing a disturbance and damaging windows.

“Officers, including firearms officers, attended New Road, Gravesend, where a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and taken into custody.”
