Police have confirmed today that a body was found at an old army barracks.

The death of the 47-year-old man, in Armoury Drive, Gravesend, is not being treated as suspicious and a report has been prepared for the coroner.

The individual's next of kin have been informed.

Kent Police spokesman Richard Spillett said on Friday: "Police were called at 10.45am on Friday, April 17 to an address in Armoury Drive, Gravesend, where they assisted the South East Coast Ambulance Service with a medical incident."

One resident of Armoury Drive said: "I woke up at 10 this morning and six or seven police cars were already here.

"At about 2pm the forensics left after a funeral Mercedes car turned up.

"I don't even know what time this all happened. Everything's normally as quiet as a mouse round here so this is very odd. The old barracks have been turning into flats for the past few years and all the guys working on it live inside."
