A 78-YEAR-OLD woman lost £500 of jewellery after she let a burglar into her home.

A man knocked on her door in Milroy Avenue, Gravesend, last Saturday at about 2pm saying he was doing some work on the neighbouring house and needed to check the water and look at the drains in her home.

However, while she took him into her back garden to do that, an accomplice got in and stole her jewellery, and some cash.

The first burglar was a white man between 40 and 50 years old, with a slim build and about 5ft 6ins tall.

A spokesman for the police said: “We want to appeal to people not to open their door to strangers.”
