Gravesend: Crash outside Pelham Arms, Old Road West, leaves police officer seriously injured

A police officer has been injured after a suspected drink driver collided head on with her car.

The crash happened just after 4pm outside The Pelham Arms in Old Road West, Gravesend, with numerous police vehicles and paramedics called to the scene.

A 26-year-old Northfleet man who was driving a silver BMW 523i sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. He has been arrested and remains in custody.

Police said the road remained closed at its junction with Pelham Road until just before 7.30pm.

The injured officer - a woman - was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but has since been discharged.

Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for witnesses.
