Musical school pupils raised more than £250 for the victims of the Grenfell Tower blaze when they put on a concert just before the end of term.

Last month we revealed more than 30 youngsters at Northfleet School for Girls in Hall Road had performed in aid of the Red Cross Fire Relief Fund.

In the amphitheatre in the school grounds, pupils played and sang a number of pop songs, culminating with Bridge Over Troubled Water, a version of which was recorded and released as a charity single earlier this year by a number of stars under the moniker Artists for Grenfell.

We can now reveal the young musicians’ efforts, along with a cake sale organised by year 8 pupils, raised £268.

Music teacher Sarah Jenkins said: “It was a really good night, everyone said they enjoyed it. The children really did well and demonstrated their talents and were very courageous, especially as a lot of them had never performed in public before.

“I was very touched by what had happened at Grenfell Tower as were some of the students.

“The concert was outside to create a festival atmosphere.”
