Gravesham council deputy leader John Knight appears in court for allegedly assaulting Kent County Councillor

A council's deputy leader has appeared in court after allegedly assaulting a colleague on Kent County Council.

Cllr John Knight, of Downs Road, Istead Rise, denied lashing out at fellow Conservative Cllr Bryan Sweetland at a disability awareness event.

The 64-year-old is alleged to have attacked Cllr Sweetland in Lord Street Car Park, Parrock Street, Gravesend, on Friday, May 18.

Councillor John Knight appeared in Medway Magistrates' Court

Knight faced the charge at Medway Magistrates' Court this morning and has been placed on unconditional bail.

His trail, which will take place at the same court, has been adjourned until Tuesday, July 24.
