A dangerous dog has been destroyed after attacking a horse in Gravesend.

The pit bull, a breed illegal to own in the UK, was seized by police after leaving the other animal with puncture wounds to its legs, face and stomach.

Officers were called to the distressing scene in Dering Way, Gravesend, at about 8pm on Wednesday, September 29, where the horse had collapsed.

The dog was taken to the kennels at North Kent Police Station, in Thames Way, before being put down a week later.

Its owner was arrested for having a dangerous and out of control dog but handed the animal over to be destroyed and was not charged.

He claimed he had rescued the dog in the belief it was a Staffordshire bull terrier.

The horse survived.
