Dog with trapped head rescued in busy night for firefighters

FIREFIGHTERS in part of Kent had a busy shift last night in which there were several small fires.

At 8pm two pumps from Thames-side were called to Clifton Marine Parade, Gravesend, to a skip alight behind Halfords.

At 10.45pm they were called to a builders merchants in Grove Road, Northfleet, due to a fire alarm sounding - but there was no fire.

An hour and a half later one pump used specialist tools to open the front door of a house in Waterdales, Northfleet, after a woman became locked out and her toddler was indoors.

Shortly after at 12.15am one crew extinguished a Ford Escort which was on fire in Augustine Road, Gravesend.

At 1am there was a multi agency response to a dog which had its head trapped under a door in a empty warehouse in the Canal Basin, Gravesend.

Firefighters freed the trapped Alsatian while a police dog handler controlled a Rottweiler, which was inside the building. The RSPCA were also in attendance.

And at 6.30am one crew spent 30 minutes extinguishing a recycling bin alight in New Barn Road, Northfleet.
