Cannabis and cocaine were found during a police drugs operation in Gravesend on Friday.

As part of the continuing crackdown on drug users and suppliers in North Kent, officers took to the streets for their latest night-time operation.

Ten police officers, along with three special constables and two passive drugs dogs took part in the initiative, which ran between 5pm and 1am the following morning.

During a search with the dogs at Gravesend Railway Station, two small boxes containing cannabis and cocaine were found. A man seen acting suspiciously made off on a train before officers could speak to him. Cannabis warnings were also issued on two men who were stopped following an indication from one of the dogs.

Officers then moved to Gravesend town centre where seizures of alcohol were made from 15 underage drinkers.

The ION track drug testing machine was also used during the evening as a condition of entry at the Pembroke pub and at Bar 24. A total of 241 people were screened resulting in four searches and four people being refused entry to the Pembroke.

At Bar 24 five searches were carried out and three people were refused entry.

North Kent Drugs and Licensing officer, PC Adrian Parsons, who ran the operation, said: “This operation builds on work already being done around disruption to drug suppliers and users in Dartford and Gravesham and sends out a clear message that we will not tolerate drugs in or around any of our licensed premises.”
